JLPT N4 - Part 4: 〜ながら (While Doing)

Use Vます-stem + ながら to express two actions happening at the same time; the action with ながら is usually secondary.

Examples

• 音楽を 聞きながら 勉強します。— I study while listening to music.
• 歩きながら スマホを 使うのは 危ないです。— It’s dangerous to use your phone while walking.
• 彼は 仕事を しながら 日本語を 学びました。— He learned Japanese while working.

Notes

• The subject is typically the same for both actions.
• Avoid with inherently conflicting actions (e.g., 食べながら 歯をみがく).

Practice

A) Combine with 〜ながら:

1. テレビを見る + ごはんを食べる → ＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿。
2. 電車に乗る + 本を読む → ＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿。
