JLPT N2 - Part 10: 〜次第（しだい）

次第 has three common N2 uses:

1) As soon as … (formal business)

• V（ます）＋ 次第： 準備が 整い 次第、ご連絡 いたします。— We’ll contact you as soon as preparations are done.

2) Depending on …

• N ＋ 次第で／だ： 成功するか どうかは、努力 次第だ。— It depends on your effort.

3) Explanation of circumstances (set phrase)

• 〜次第です： ご連絡が 遅くなりましたのは、出張中だった 次第です。— That’s the reason.
